2nd Class are exploring different ways of learning facts from our History, Geography and Science work. We like to be active learners and learn from doing! As you have seen before we have used podcasting for Geography, building for Science and video apps for History, to name but a few things we have tried out.

This week we have been learning about the Titanic. We decided to use a new app that our friend Seomra Ranga suggested. It is a news app called NewsBooth. It makes it look like we are news reporters! It helps us to learn off facts like journalists. We imagined that we were reporting on the Titanic disaster from New York Harbour. It is great to use one lesson to learn for three different subjects, here we combined our History facts, IT skills and Drama talents!

As you all know, Tommy Lang in 4th Class is a stop-motion video making wizard! We are so proud of the work he does. You can see an example of his other work on this blogpost!

Today we’re sharing Tommy’s recent video.  It is all about the work that takes places in an airport! It is truly amazing. He uses voice and audio clips from the internet and his bedsheets act as clouds. It is just so clever. You must see it here. Well done Tommy! Our favourite part is where the door closes and where the tea and coffee is being served!

As part of their teacher’s course on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths), 5th class have been developing their skills in thinking like a scientist. Yesterday, we focused on observing and inferring and tracked our lesson on Twitter. We used Storify to collect all of the Tweets for the lesson into one story – check it out underneath!

Our Polly has been having the time of her life in St. Brigid’s in Greystones. She went off on her holidays over midterm and we haven’t seen her since! 2nd Class are delighted that she is having such a great time, and learning lots with our blogging friends. 2nd Class in St. Brigid’s (and all of the other children in the school too!) have been looking after Polly so well.

They’ve been blogging about her a lot, here and here! In fact, Polly is all over their blog and twitter. Polly feels very important to be allowed to visit a school had is famous for blogging, in fact… they run the best school blog IN THE COUNTRY!

If all of that blogging wasn’t enough, we also got postcards from Polly this morning! We love sending postcards when we are on our holidays, and it is so nice to receive them too.

Have a look at what they look like! They were cool ‘Where’s Wally’ cards, perfect for World Book Day week!

We recorded a little podcast to catch up with Polly. We are delighted to hear that Polly is teaching Brigid! Have a listen to it here! We hope you are enjoying our blog posts and tweets about Polly!

We all thoroughly enjoyed decorating and eating our delicious pancakes today!

Ryan and Nathan had very creative ideas and quite a lot of toppings too!!
White chocolate, sugar & lemon and golden syrup were our favourites!
As we ate we talked about what Pancake Tuesday is and discovered that it is also
 called  ” Shrove Tuesday”.
Ben told us that it is always the day before Ash Wednesday.
Ryan explained that it is always just before Lent begins.
Nathan O’B knew that Lent lasted for 40 days and 40 nights.
We are looking forward to getting our Ashes at mass tomorrow.

Today we thought about all of the signs of Spring in nature, we then went on a nature walk to check if had forgotten to add anything ! Afterwards we made a wordle of all things to do with Spring and nature.

We learnt that Spring is a time of growth; the plants and trees are starting to grow buds & leaves, and the animals are coming out of hibernation. Many animals are having babies now too, we have noticed lambs, calves and chicks. We named quite a lot of Spring flowers today too; daffodil, snowdrop, bluebell, tulip, primrose, can you think of anymore?

Ms. Mitchell found some frogspawn and mother frogs in Glendalough over the midterm break – how many can you spot?

Today I took part in the County Wicklow final of the Easons’ Spelling Bee. You can see my report on the school final here. It took place at Kilcoole Primary School in the St. Brigid’s building.

There were 17 competitors from all over County Wicklow. I came 4th in the whole competition. The word I struggled on was archaic but I spelled all my other words perfectly. My mam and my nanny came with us and they said that they were very proud of me. I wasn’t nervous at all, but my mam was. I got a t-shirt, a dictionary and a certificate.

When I got back to school, I met my teacher Ms Whyte. She was delighted and really proud of me. All of the classes that heard gave me a round of applause and the teachers all came up and told me that I did great.

Thanks to Ms Sugrue and my mam and nanny for helping me to prepare for the Spelling Bee. I really enjoyed myself!
