We absolutely love leaving comments on other school blogs. It allows us improve our comments, keep up to date with other schools and also get to know people who love to blog, just like us.

Last week, via Twitter, we asked if any of our followers would like us to leave comments on their school blogs. We were delighted to be asked by a number of schools if we could leave comments for them.

Here are the tweets we received!

Please visit the above schools at:
1. St. Colman’s BNS
2. Cloghans Hill NS
3. St. Mologa’s SNS

Leave positive, encouraging comments! Remember all we have learned about how to behave online. Don’t forget to say that you are from St. Peter’s! We’ll be updating the blogroll officially later in the week, let us know if you find another school or class blog that you think we should add and visit!

Welcome to our weekly blog newsletter – the St Peter’s Post! And if it’s ever been needed – this has been the week! With so much happening, we don’t want you to miss out on any of our big news and little moments. Of course, as you all know by now, the major event this week was the launch of the website – www.stpetersbray.ie All the staff and students worked really hard to put it together, but special thanks has to go to Ms Brennan, who put in so much work to turn all the content into the fantastic website we now have! Read all about our launch here.

Please make sure you check it out! The school spirit in St Peter’s is unrivalled and something that many people have commented on. The comments on this blog alone really show how much the students of St Peter’s and their parents love the school. We really appreciate your support and help in getting the word out there about all of the exciting developments!

As you know, we’re closed on Monday and Tuesday for St Patrick’s Day. We were happy to share the details for the St Patrick’s Day festival in Bray on the blog during the week and we really recommend you check it out.

So what else has been going on this week? (more…)

3rd Class with the help of Mr. Kinsella and Ms. Byrne have been working really hard to create their very own Stop Motion videos. Stop motion is an animation technique to makes objects appear to move on their own. We decided to use Lego as our main prop as it one of our favorite things. We worked in groups of three to come up with characters, props and storylines for our animations. We moved the Lego and props in small increments between each frame creating the illusion of movement. We then played the series of frames as a continuous sequence to create our movies.  Here is our first stop motion animation called – ‘The Robbery’. It was created by Finn, Cathál and Adam H. Watch this space for our next exciting movies: The Escape, The Fall, The Chase!

We’ve always enjoyed taking part in Engineer’s Week activities – back in 2005, we were the Senior Engineering Class of Ireland and the trophy was one of the coolest we’ve ever seen!

This year, we really enjoyed Engineer’s Week. You can see an overview of all of our activities here. We were so excited to get an email from the STEPS co-ordinator, Sylvia Leatham, to tell us that we had won a prize for our efforts! Here’s the press release from STEPS. Sylvia had very kind comments about our work:

Your blog gave us a great sense of what you did – it looks like you really embraced the week. We especially loved how the Wordle showed the progress that was made during the week in terms of altering perceptions of engineering. And the podcast, electric paint and experiments were all fantastic. We liked that you referenced our resources too!

The amazing news is that we’ve won a show from Scientific Sue for the whole school in April. The boys who were at the Intel Mini-Scientist Regional Finals saw Scientific Sue in action and thought she was amazing! We can’t wait to welcome her to St Peter’s!

Robert from 5th class made the Vine to thank STEPS. You can see more of his stop-motion work here.

Thanks so much to STEPS and to Engineer’s Week. We really enjoyed all the activities and we can’t wait to take part in 2015!

This year is Bray’s 10th annual St. Patrick’s Festival. This year’s festival will run from Friday 14th to Tuesday 18th March. Check out the festival website here! All of the events are available to view on this calendar here!

Highlights this year include a Fireworks Display over the walls of the Harbour tonight, and this will mark the beginning of the festival. This year’s festival also includes The Wicklow Times Window Display Competition and a Photo Competition with great prizes up for grabs. The BIG FUNDAY OUT will return to the Civic Plaza too, promising great fun for all the family. Also returning this year is The Boathouse Céili Breakfast and Bird’s Euroshow Funfair. Needless to say, we can’t WAIT for the Parade! Good luck all of our students marching in it. All info on the traffic restrictions are available here. Pictures of the parade from previous years can be seen here!

There is plenty on. We are very lucky to live in a place with such fantastic people who plan out great things to entertain us!

IPHONEIf things have been a little quiet on the blogging and tweeting front this week… I think you’ll forgive us! Every class, teacher and staff member has been working hard on putting together our brand new website! And here it is… www.stpetersbray.ie!

We’re delighted with how child-friendly it is, how much work was done by the children in making it and also how it shows off life in our school in such a fun and personal way. It has information on enrolment, staff details, information for parents, videos, photos, policies, after-school club details, lists of awards and achievements… you name it! It’s there. The Student Council are going to keep an active page there too, just to add to their fantastic work on this blog to date.

We hope you like it, and will be looking for any suggestions/ideas for developing it further over the next few weeks! So, what are you waiting for? Go check it out!

We are big fans of Roald Dahl in our class; we decided to read one of his books after all the interesting things that we read about him during World Book Day! We chose The Twits.

We talk about each chapter with our talk buddies after reading it, and then we write a summary in our copies.

We make sure to talk about the beginning, middle and end every time.

Sometimes we chat about how the characters are feeling while we are reading the book, we even try to imagine how we would feel if we were them!

We are always laughing at the mean tricks that the Twits play on eachother!

Here are some of our favourite parts;

“My favourite part is when Mr. Twit puts pieces of wood under Mrs. Twit’s chair” – Nathan K

“My favourite part is when Mrs. Twit puts worms in the spaghetti” – Arturas

” I love that the Twits are always playing tricks on each other!” – Ryan

” My favourite part is when Mr. Twit thinks she is shrinking” – Adam

” The Twits are very funny.” -Lorcan

“My favourite part is when Mr. Twit gets his revenge on Mrs. Twit because she was mean to him” – Jordan

“My favourite part was when Mrs. Twit was asleep in bed and Mr. Twit put a frog inside the quilt. Mrs Twit was screaming and Mr. Twit was smirking!” – Nathan o’B

Do you have a favourite Roald Dahl book?

On Tuesday boys from 3rd– 6th class travelled down to beautiful Avondale to take part in a Cross Country Athletics competition. The boys ran in relay teams of four and did our school proud. It was a tough course but each of the boys tried their best and gave it their all until they reached the finish line. We were blessed that the sun was shining and we all had a wonderful day.

‘Everyone in 3rd class really enjoyed the cross country running.’ – Szymon

‘It was a hard course but we tried our best and had fun.’ –Finn

‘Each of us showed great school spirit cheering on the boys from each class.’ – Chris

‘We hope the other schools enjoyed the day as much as we did.’ – Dylan

‘The sun was shining so we had a picnic on the grass while enjoying the beautiful views of Avondale.’ – Kian

Fun in the Sun!Fun in the Sun!
