We’re learning about volcanoes in 2nd class at the moment. As part of our artwork this month, we learned about paint and colour. We watched videos of volcanoes erupting and picked out the colours that we noticed in the video. We picked red, orange, yellow and a bit of brown to use. We tried a new technique to portray a volcanic eruption called straw painting. We watered down the paint, poured some on the page and blew through a straw to make the paint move all over the page. It was REALLY messy but the effect was really cool. We learned that the page gets very wet from the paint so you have to be careful not to tear it with the straw. We made the volcano part from brown wrapping paper, which we scrunched up to make it look rocky and then we chose to paint it or leave it plain. Our volcanoes are up outside our classroom door. Check them out in our Animoto!
