Third class had a visit from Joe, a Civil Engineer from Dublin City Council for Engineer Week 2015.

Joe came to our class one Friday morning and told us all about the different types of engineering – Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical and Civil.

We looked at water treatment plants, robots, airplanes, bridges and much more! One of the things we really loved were the pictures of the wind farms.

Joe told us lots of fun facts about Engineering. Did you know that when Engineers are designing bridges, they leave a little tunnel with bait for badgers to pass through so that they don’t have to cross a busy road? How kind!

When Joe had told us all about Engineering, we figured out how many Engineers it would take to make a cup of tea!

We loved our visit from Joe!

imageToday in Make-it club, our first and second class budding artists stepped back in time to create some Medieval bunting flags for the Wicklow Arts Festival!

imageAll we needed was a chopped up bedsheet for our material, lots of markers, a couple of homemade stencils and some historical inspiration.

imageWe are very proud of our end results and they will be tied together and put on display in Wicklow Town on the 23rd and 24th of May as a part of the Wicklow Arts Festival! For more information see www.wicklowartsfestival.ie/medieval-bunting-community-art-installation

Congratulations to our wonderful Sacramental Choir who sang so beautifully at the recent Confirmation. 24 boys and girls from 2nd to 5th came to St Peter’s Parish Church on Saturday morning after weeks of practice at lunchtimes! We got great feedback about their beautiful singing and their school spirit was really appreciated! We’re looking forward to hearing them again at the Communion ceremony on the 24th April!

Dominick’s Cartoon from St Peter’s, Bray on Vimeo.

I worked really hard on my ‘Toontastic’ video and I really hope you enjoy it. It’s about three dinosaurs, Rex, Bronto and the very silly Terry. It took me a long time to make it on the ipad because I had to do it day by day.

I followed a ‘story arc’ to write 5 scenes. I wrote my first scene, the ‘setup’, then the ‘conflict’ where there’s a problem in the cartoon. The ‘challenge’ scene was where the problem got even harder for the main characters. The ‘climax’ scene was where everything got solved and then the ‘resolution ‘was where everything went back to normal.

I was really excited when I started doing it. It’s a really funny cartoon about three dinosaurs who are trying to get home from a ship that they get teleported onto because they ate some magic eggs. Terry is the funniest character. My favourite bit is when the dangerous shark talks about Rex. Please enjoy it and leave me some good comments! Thanks, Dominick

We are taking part in Irish dancing lessons in Senior Infants at the moment and we’re having so much fun! It’s perfect timing as we can use what we have learned to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day! Sue is our teacher and has taught us some excellent moves! We really enjoy learning new dances like the Walls of Limerick and love playing musical statues to practice what we have been learning. Thanks Sue for making our lessons so much fun!

Check out some of our photos here!

Last week third class came into the junior infant classroom to do their reading with them.

peer to peer reading 1

Every junior infant read their book to a boy or girl from third class. Third class asked junior infants some questions that they had prepared with their teacher.

The third class boys and girls were careful not to tell the junior infants what the word was in the book but to help them sound it out.

All the boys and girls had great fun and learned a lot! Well done junior infants and third class!
