This year, Mr. Foley’s group showed us just how good they were at baking and cooking! Every Wednesday, the group turned into “The BC Crew”, which stands for the Baking and Cooking Crew!
We loved when Wednesday would come around because we would get to cook or bake, and the food was always really tasty. It was great to work together to prepare different meals each week, all under the watchful eye of Liz!
Each week, the first thing we did was wash our hands. Once we had all the ingredients out on the table, we took turns washing and cutting the different ingredients. As we read the recipe, we had to be very careful to put in just the right amount of each ingredient. To do this, we used grams and millilitres when we were measuring out the amounts. We also used different sized spoons and a weighing scales too. The spoons were a little tricky because some people were able to fit more onto a spoon than others. We decided that, where possible, we would use standardised measurements to make sure that we were each putting in the same amounts.
If it was a week where we were baking something, we had to check the temperature of the oven, as well as measuring how long we left the food in the oven.
The best part was when we got to try our food! We also made sure to give some to our mainstream teachers as a treat. They were always delighted when we brought the food up to them! Some of us tried the recipes at home with our families. We loved baking and cooking, and it was brilliant to see just how important the skills learned in Maths helped us with our cooking.
When all the food was eaten, the final thing to do was to clean up and make sure the kitchen was left like we found it. Once our hands were washed at the end we returned to class each week to recount all the steps we had taken.
This week 3rd class took on the tricky STEM challenge of building their own bridge!
They had to research bridges and then design one based on their research. They could use any materials they wanted but the bridge must have been strong enough to hold a food can.
Once they had their ideas down on paper, they began the hard (but fun) part – building the bridge. And when this was completed they tested out its strength by using a food can on top.
Some had to amend some areas and make slight changes but the results are fantastic, check out the pictures below, I was so impressed.
Super work rang a 3

Sunday, 10th of May was a special day that our second class students had been looking forward to. It would have been their First Holy Communion Day. For now, this date has been postponed but we put together this video to celebrate the occcasion!
All of us are really looking forward to this day in the near future but for now, have a look to see some familiar faces with a special message!

Happy Monday – today we’re working on balance! Let us know in the comments how you’re getting on!

This week, we listened to the story ‘Commotion in the Ocean’ by Giles Andreae. This book was full of lots of short rhymes that told us about all of the creatures that live in the sea!
Senior Infants taught their teacher about sea creatures!
Some children wrote about the shark, one wrote a story about a crab named Buttercup. Miss Conway even got to learn some new information about the big blue whale and the jiggly jellyfish. Miss Conway had a great time learning all of this new information from senior infants. Thanks for teaching your teacher!
Senior Infants created their own Jellyfish!

The Senior Infants got creative at home and made their own jellyfish! Each of them looked amazing but no two jellyfish looked the same! Some children used paint, some used markers and Rhys even used his nerf gun bullets! Well Done to everyone!
One Senior Infant found some real Sea Creatures!

This boy headed down the beach and found some real sea creatures! Here you can see the jellyfish and the crab that he found! Thanks to his Mam for sending on these super pictures!
