On Tuesday evening, our 6th class graduated from St. Peter’s after a very successful year (and particularly, a very successful afternoon where they became only the second class to beat the teachers in the annual soccer match!) This class have been very special to all of us in the school and we wish them all the best for the future. Student of the Year was Nathan Douglas for his school spirit, hard-working nature and friendship to all. Sportsperson of the Year was Leon Reynolds, not just for his ability, but for his encouragement of others and leadership on and off the pitch/track. Jamie...

This year, 5th and 6th classes have been taking part in the Junior Entrepreneur programme. Over the course of the last few months, both classes have set up mini-companies, invested in their companies, sold their products and shared out the profits at the end of the process. Check out our videos of the process below: http://www.stpetersbrayblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/JEP_2019-1.mp4 http://www.stpetersbrayblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Tell_What_Happened.mp4 On Monday, 5th and 6th classes travelled to the RDS to the showcase. On March 6th, 6th class took part in the first ever ESB Science Blast in the RDS. We were really proud to attend and to present our project on the science of the playground. We had a brilliant day, attending two workshops, speaking to the judges and exploring the other stands. Over the last few months, we’ve taken part in a number of investigations related to the playground. These investigations taught us a lot about slides, zip lines and surfaces, but more importantly, we learned a lot about fair testing, the process of design and make and the skills of STEM. Thanks to the RDS and ESB for...

5th and 6th class pupils are currently taking part in the Junior Entrepreneur Programme and have been working hard over the past few months to learn about what it takes to set up and run your own business! We have learned about the qualities that it takes to become an entrepreneur and the different aspects to running a business, from marketing, finance and product/ service design. We worked in groups to develop possible business ideas and pitched them in the Dragon’s Den! Mr. Foley and Brian, a guest entrepreneur, listened to our ideas. Teamwork and communication were key during our presentations...

On Thursday, we dressed up for Halloween! Les, Mr Vance, Mr Foley, Mr Kinsella and Paddy dressed up as the Jamaican bobsled team, while the rest of the staff were Halloween Class Dojo characters!   Lots of our students dressed up and everyone really enjoyed seeing each other’s costumes. A big thanks to the Parents’ Association, who organised a Halloween disco for all of our classes. We had great fun! Look at our beautiful costumes in Junior Infants! Here are some of our costumes in 6th class. 6th class made their costumes as part of their October projects!

On Thursday morning, there was great excitement in St. Peter’s when we heard that Martin O’Neill, manager of the Irish soccer team, would be visiting! We were delighted to welcome him to St Peter’s, where he took part in a press conference and answered some of our questions. He had great advice about believing in ourselves and working hard to practise our football skills. Afterwards, 6th class and some of 5th demonstrated a drill for him and had the chance to shake his hand. Judging by the levels of excitement, it was a day not to be forgotten. A big thanks to Martin O’Neill,...

Our teacher this year is Ms Sexton, who was also our teacher in 2nd class – you can see how much we’ve changed here. We’re looking forward to lots of exciting things in the year ahead. 5th class conducted an experiment this week using the strand energy and forces and the strand unit heat. The objective of the experiment was to measure and record temperature using a thermometer. The children had to compare the heat insulation properties of different materials. These materials included, aluminium foil, fabric and tissue paper. Each group had to ‘insulate’ their cups using the materials provided. Each group was given a recording sheet and the children had to check the temperature of each cup throughout the day. When the children had finished their experiments, they wrote a short...

We were delighted to take part in the FIRST Lego League Competition in Galway again this year as part of our Lego Club. This was our third year to enter the competition and we had a brilliant time again. There are 3 main elements to the competition – The Project, Core Values and The Robot Game & design Problem For the project this year we were asked to look at ways we find, use, transport and dispose of water and how we could improve this. We started looking at all the ways we use water in our lives. At Lego Club we split into groups and listed all the ways we use water every day. Then we...

The whole school took part in our Green Schools Action Day on Friday the 10th of November.  We dressed in Green and all classes took part in lessons and activities around the theme of litter and waste.  We also focused on our school garden and we looked at improving this area. Junior Infants created a town called Juniorville using recyclable materials they gathered from home. Senior Infants gathered recyclable materials, sorted and classified them before creating their own junk art inventions. 1st class planted some seeds for our school garden.  These included peas, brocolli and rocket which...
