2nd Class record their reading daily. We record ourselves and listen back to see if our reading has improved. We give each other pointers and help each other to improve. We like reading for an audience and practicing speaking loudly, clearly and with a nice tone. We are taking First Steps to good reading. So far this year, we have read four books together. The Giraffe, The Pelly and Me, The Magic Finger, Esio Trot and Care of Henry. We have worked on: 1. Visualising – closing our eyes and seeing the story in our head. 2. Questioning – asking each other questions about the story, podcasting...

2nd Class have spent a lot of time on their Write-A-Book projects since we came back to school in January. We have drawn pictures for them and bound them but we also decided to put them up on the blog using our new favourite web tool, StoryBird. Here are some of our stories, we hope you like them!

2nd Class are trying to get very good at using different fabrics and fibres in our Art lessons. We are working on how we can use wool and thread, and how wool is used for knitting and weaving. We practiced cutting, weaving and using wool when we made wool pencil-holder cups in class on Friday. It was so easy to do and it looks great. We also used it to help our maths, as we were making different shapes depending on the number of lines we cut. Have a look to see what we did!

We had a lovely time on Wednesday when Baby Tristan came to visit our class for the second time. This visit’s theme for Roots of Empathy was all about Crying. We didn’t learn about Tristan’s crying because he is such a good baby and just never cries. When the baby comes we do special things. 1. We sing our welcome song and a goodbye song 2. We weigh him and measure him 3. We play with the baby and have tummy time with him 4. We ask questions to his Mammy Gwen 5. We always come close to the baby to see if the baby notices us and work on our communication. We love Roots of Empathy....

The cover of our book 2nd Class have just finished their latest book. It is called ‘Care of Henry’ and it is written by Anne Fine. We really liked it and managed to read it in just two weeks! We made a podcast to tell you all about it. We had great fun and managed to put some opera singing in again! Well done to Kia for stepping up to be our latest presenter! Remember to keep reading, and have fun with books!
