Our theme in 5th class for October was Africa. We’ve been focusing on a different continent every month and we’re looking forward to showing you our work on Asia next month. Our big focus was a collaborative art project. We drew the outline of Africa and of all the borders of the African states. We used this tool from Class Tools to choose the countries that we were going to research. We researched the African states using this website. Our criteria for success was to write the name of the country, draw the flag of the country and two other pictures to represent that country. Some...
We were all very excited that Lego Club started back this week! This year we are taking part in an international competition called the First Lego League. As part of the competition we will be looking at three different things – A Trash Trek Project, A Robot Game and The First Lego League Core Values. This week we started building our models that will be used for our robot game. We worked in teams to make Models no. 1, 2, 3 and 4 using the instructions on the laptops. Next week we will continue making the rest of the models. We also hope to have our new Lego table made, set up for next week’s...
Have you met our #studentcouncil? We work for all of the students in our school! We meet every fortnight. pic.twitter.com/9nHzwo6a1P — St. Peter’s Primary (@StPetersBray) October 5, 2015 Congratulations to our new Student Council for this term. We are very proud of you and know that you will do very well. Here are your new council. Listen to their very first podcast here!
This afternoon, 2nd and 5th classes joined forces to read together! 2nd class read their readers to 5th class, while 5th class encouraged them to sound out words that they weren’t sure of, praised their work and asked them questions about the stories. Afterwards, 5th class read a picture book to their partner (and made sure to do the voices!) 5th class had chosen a picture book earlier in the day and practised reading with expression and fluency. Ms Fry and Ms Sexton were really impressed with how well the two classes worked together, but don’t take their word for it – here are...
Earlier today, two buses of 1st to 5th class students set off on the school tour of 2015 in Fort Lucan. Everyone had a fantastic day and we were extremely proud of the behaviour and school spirit of all the students who went along – lots of smiles in the photos below! This Vine sums up how well the day went – sleepy heads on the bus home are a good sign of a great day out! Lots of fun on the trampoline! Red slide or blue? Which did you choose? You can find photos from our school tour 2014 here and from 2013 here!
Last Friday, we had a new twist on an old tradition on St Peter’s – the Mini-World Cup! You can read all about last year’s Mini-World Cup here. This year, we had three Mini World Cup tournaments – Junior and Senior Infants played in the morning, 1st and 2nd classes played between break and lunchtime and the older classes had their tournament after lunch. Here are a few photos and Vines from the day – and you can read more about the infant classes and their tournament here.
For the Discover Primary Science and Maths Award, Fourth Class chose to investigate “themselves”! We did three experiments, with all three based on our own body. The first was to examine our own fingerprints, the second was to determine which of our eyes was the dominant one, and the final experiment was to see if we could find our blind spot. To begin, we started talking about how everybody is different in the world, and how every single fingerprint in the world is different. This means it is a great piece of evidence for the gardaí when a crime is committed because it can help them...
Thanks to everyone who made our open morning for Grandparents’ Day so special. It was lovely to have you visit our school. We had grandparents, neighbours, friends of the Parish and our Mams and Dads in to see our rooms, work and performance. We performed a couple of classics from previous shows and had a lovely time. Thanks to our Parents’ Association for their hard work and time spent serving tea, coffee and other lovely treats! We can’t wait for Grandparents’ Day 2016!
Congratulations to our wonderful Sacramental Choir who sang so beautifully at the recent Confirmation. 24 boys and girls from 2nd to 5th came to St Peter’s Parish Church on Saturday morning after weeks of practice at lunchtimes! We got great feedback about their beautiful singing and their school spirit was really appreciated! We’re looking forward to hearing them again at the Communion ceremony on the 24th April!
