What a busy term we have had in Senior Infants! Between our school tour to Glenroe Farm and baking rice krispie buns with First Class, learning about animals during Aistear, taking part in Bike Day, Sports Day and a minibeast hunt, having a guest speaker visit our class, planting flowers and taking part in another design and make project with Fifth Class we have been working so hard and enjoying ourselves along the way! Take a look at some of our photos and read below to see how we got on! We really enjoyed learning about animals and as part of our Aistear role play station we learned what it would...
Junior Infants had a fun day last week. We had so much fun! We had a soccer tournament with the senior infants that Paddy organised- it was so much fun! We were in four teams and we played really well! The we had a yummy barbecue with hot dogs and ice pops to finish. After our barbecue we made yummy cupcakes and decorated them. Then we did some art and made puppets and windmills! Next it was time for Jungle Dave! Jungle Dave brought in so many reptiles and told us all about them! ...
The boys and girls from Junior Infants, Senior Infants, First and Second Class completed their sports day today. Paddy worked very hard to put together lots of games from High Jump to relay races, to egg and spoon races and catch the teacher games! Some happy faces from Junior and Senior Infants enjoying the fun! The boys and girls were so lucky and each one got a hotdog as a treat on this special day. They needed some fuel for energy – they were all giving all the races and games their very best effort! Well done boys and girls. Below see Seán from Second Class and Maja from Junior Infants...
Recently, the whole school learned a song and sang it together at assembly. We chose ‘I Lived’ by One Republic because the lyrics are so inspirational. It’s all about experiencing the good and the bad of life and is written by a father to his newborn son. We loved singing the song together and a special well done to our soloists – Casey, Patrick, Sophie, Toby, AJ, Kristina, Carl, Tristan, Finn, Lex, Adem, Ellie and Hayley. I lived from St Peter's, Bray on Vimeo.
Junior infants learned that pushing and pulling were a force. We then learned that there was another invisible force called “magnetic force.” We learned that magnets attract some materials. We learned that these materials are made of metal. We also learned that magnets have two poles, the north pole is red and the south pole is blue. We had some investigations to do: We would find out that poles that were the same repelled each other and poles that were different attracted each other. We would also find out which materials were attracted to magnets! Poles that are the same or “like”...
Senior Infants have been busy exploring and investigating different materials. We have looked at wood, plastic, fabric, cardboard and rubber and have learned that they all look and feel very different. Investigating and experimenting is something we like to try whenever we get the opportunity. After reading ‘The Gruffalo’s Child’ by Julia Donaldson we decided it might be a good idea to try to design and make a coat for the Gruffalo’s Child to wear. We knew that the Gruffalo’s Child liked to explore the woods near his home but it seemed silly that he wasn’t wearing a coat out in the...
Having learned about the Titanic last week, the children in first class decided to undertake the challenge of designing their own boats. First we brainstormed the properties of boats and we decided that they need to float, carry people and have some way of moving. Then we discussed what types of materials would be good to use when building boats. We concluded that materials such as paper and cardboard would be no good as they would get soggy. Instead we would need to use waterproof materials such as plastic and strong materials such as metal. The first step we took was to see what objects...
The green table tied with the red table for table of the week! They kept their table clean and tidy and were kind to others. They are a great team! Great work! Excellent word work! The red table tied with the green table for table of the week! This boy has been doing great work on his words. These boys and girls got a prize and certificates for their lovely handwriting.
We have had a very busy term in Senior Infants and hope everyone is enjoying their well deserved break! Here is a little update on what’s been happening in our classroom! Investigating and experimenting is something we like to try whenever we get the opportunity. After reading ‘The Gruffalo’s Child’ by Julia Donaldson we decided it might be a good idea to try to design and make a coat for the Gruffalo’s Child to wear. We knew that the Gruffalo’s Child liked to explore the woods near his home but it seemed silly that he wasn’t wearing a coat out in the snow! The Gruffalo’s Child...
Last Tuesday, March 15th, in every school across the country, students are celebrating Proclamation Day as part of the celebrations of the centenary of 1916. In St Peter’s, we had a very special ceremony, where every class was involved, finishing with the raising of the Irish flag that was presented late last year by the members of the Defence Forces. We also displayed artwork in the hall related to our projects on the Easter Rising. Our ceremony started with an introduction from our principal, Ms. Whyte. Next, Amber from 4th class, Finn and Chris from 5th class and Alex, Alana and Ryan...
