Last Friday, we celebrated the annual St. Peter’s World Cup. It was incredible fun, and as per usual it was very, very tight at the finish.

It all started with the team draws. Every teacher had a team to manage! We shared the teams via twitter as they were announced at assembly.

The sun was shining and we were all set for a brilliant afternoon of football. Eventually we got down to the semi-finals. Brazil played France, and France  won thanks to a excellent goal by Dylan Hempenstall in 3rd Class! The other semi-final was contested by Ghana and Argentina. Ghana emerged victorious with an excellent whole-team performance. That left Ghana v. France in the final. It was VERY tense! Mr. Staunton made his debut performance on the line against a very confident Ms. Flanagan who was missing her sidekick Ms. Hyland. However, she had the strategic mind of Ms. Mitchell as her co-coach this year and she brought them great luck. After a very tight, close game…it ended in a draw! We had true World Cup drama on the cards! Have a look at some of the penalties…

In the end.. it came down to Eduard’s goal!

Thanks to Paddy and the coaches for another great day. Well done France! The next big sporting occasion is the Teachers v. Students Football Match! Bring it on!
