Sixth class had a great day out recently on their trip to the Viking Splash Tour in Dublin City Centre. After meeting at the school nice and early, we caught the bus into the city and began an epic game of Eye Spy, which lasted for most of the day. We hoped to visit the National Museum before our transformation into Vikings, but as it was closed, we went to St Stephen’s Green and played a game of football in the sunshine – both students and staff were watching each other carefully, with the student-teacher soccer match in mind!

On our way up to St Patrick’s Cathedral, we stopped off at St Stephen’s Green shopping centre for a 99.

The Splash Tour itself was great fun. We wore helmets and enjoyed frightening ‘Cappuccino Celts’, ‘Confused Celts’ and ‘Competition Celts’ on the streets of the city with our Viking roars. After showing us some of the sights of the city, the tour guide, Liam, took us to the Grand Canal Dock to show us what the DUKW could really do! The DUKW is the six-wheeled vehicle that can go on land and water. It was built during World War 2 and was only expected to last 10 weeks but is still going strong 70 years later. Each DUKW weighs about 7 tonnes and is about 31 feet long. More information about the Viking Splash Tour can be found on their website here – it’s a great day out!

After we returned to dry land, we went to Grafton Street for lunch in McDonald’s. We were fascinated by the street performers, especially the one who appeared to be floating above the ground. We took our lunch back to St Stephen’s Green, which was full of people on their lunchbreak, enjoying the sunshine. On our walk to the bus stop, we noticed that the bus was early and had to sprint to catch it!

Thanks to Mr Curran and to Paddy, who came along for the day. Thanks also to the boys, who were extremely well behaved and an absolute pleasure to take out for the day. There are only a few more weeks left of their time in sixth class and it’s great to have days like these to create a few more memories of their time in Peter’s!

Has anyone seen the Viking Splash Tour around the city?

Well done to Ms. Sexton for organising such a brilliant day! I absolutely love the Viking Splash boat, I always laugh when I hear the roar up the street when the passengers ‘welcome’ tourists to our capital city! I was on one like it in Boston last year, they call it the Duck Tour over there. Great fun.
